Understanding Tickets

Tickets have been a hot topic recently, but almost never worth dying for. Obviously, "Buy it or Die" is a bit harsh, perhaps a wee-bit overkill? Either way, tickets can be bought from a wide variety of sources. Many fans prefer the box office. Then there's Ticketmaster. And don't forget the literally thousands of ticket websites pulling at your sleeve for a little attention. These secondary-market sellers are numerous and range from one-kid part-time throw-up-a-website-tonight operations to large sites such as TicketsNow, which is a Ticketmaster company (yes, Ticketmaster still dominates the world, old news). The ticket market is a wild-west show right now, but the dust is starting to settle, competition is fierce, and it looks like the ultimate winners will be a smarter primary-market grasping the benefits of the secondary-market and especially consumers who are realizing the secondary-market for tickets is a win-win.

Tickets to Die For

The best way for consumers to get great tickets at the lowest price is to first check with the venue and/or official box office to see what tickets they have available. Second, check with any fan clubs, season ticket groups, or other memberships that may offer a deal on current tickets and in the future. Third, see what tickets are available from the secondary-market.

Some great ticket deals can be found in the secondary-market. First of all, it is estimated that forty-percent of tickets on the secondary-market are sold for less than the original cost. Second, very often tickets that are incredibly better than tickets available from the primary-market are available for purchase for just a little more money. Imagine spending an extra hundred bucks to get seats in the first few rows when your friends are way in back; it’s often more than worth it.

Before you check all of these options, you cannot make the smartest decision. Some might say just stick with the primary market (if not sold-out), others might argue to save time and just go with the convenience of dealing with ticket brokers and trust you’ll usually get the best seats anyway. We say: Be diligent, do your homework, compare ticket availability and prices, then buy your tickets and enjoy live entertainment at its finest! It may seem daunting at first, but once you navigate around the ticket sites a bit, you’ll get the hang of it.
